Sharks have been on Earth for more than 400 million years, they have survived more than five mass extinctions, they have been on this planet long before dinosaurs and we, humans, are taking them to the brink of extinction. The start point of this documentary is How can awareness for the protection of a species, be created through a documentary?
Gerardo del Villar accomplished in 2004 the dream of being an underwater photographer and faced the sharks for the first time. He has collaborated as a writer and photographer with several magazines such as Mexico desconocido and National Geographic Traveler. He produced The Shark Project and he is the only Latin American who has photographed and interacted freely with the 10 most dangerous sharks in the world. In 2014 he produced the documentary Sharks of Mexico, which obtained several distinctions in international festivals.
